More than 2.5 million foreign tourists visit Vietnam

The Vietnam National Tourism Administration reported that more than 2.5 million foreign tourist arrivals visited Vietnam in the first five months of 2011, a year-on-year increase of 18 percent.

Countries and territories seeing an increase in the number of tourists to Vietnam from the same period last year were China with 546,900 arrivals, up 49.6 percent, the Republic of Korea with 222,400 arrivals, up 2.5 percent and Japan with 204,200 arrivals, up 12.8 percent.

Tourist arrivals from the US, Cambodia, Taiwan, Malaysia, France and Australia also saw significant rises.

Over the past five months, tourists visiting Vietnam for travel and recreation reached nearly 1.5 million, a year-on-year increase of 10.2 percent, while 418,000 arrivals came to Vietnam for business purposes, a decrease of 0.8 percent and 442,400 arrivals arrived in Vietnam to visit relatives, a rise of 81.4 percent.

That Vietnam was recognized as one of the top 13 destinations of the Asian tours in 2011 and top 50 tourism destinations of the world... also helped attract a large number of tourists and foreigners.

Vote for Halong Bay at Tourism centers


Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) has sent  official letters to the travel companies, hotels, tourism training schools to intensify the voting campaign for Halong Bay to become the world’s natural wonders with a slogan: “Each worker in the tourism industry one vote for Halong Bay”, “Each tourist one vote for Halong Bay”.

It is known that funding for this campaign is one billion VND. Ballots will be printed in four languages: Vietnamese, English, French, Chinese (one side is the image of Ha Long Bay, the back side is the slogan and voting instructions) and be issued to the following subjects: tourism enterprises; domestic tourist sites; Embassies and Representatives of international organizations in Vietnam; in the internal or overseas tourism events; representative networks of Vietnam Airlines and other airlines which fly to Vietnam.
 
In April, VNAT is going to carry on the voting campaign in major tourism centers around the country such as
Ha Long, Hanoi, Quang Binh, Hue, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho
