The accident of sunken Truong Hai 06 boat on February 17th, leaving 12 dead, on Halong Bay was the worst accident of Vietnam tourism. The principle reason was for the irresponsibility of the young captain and chief mechanic both lacking in rescuing skills. Their shipmen were inexperienced in the cruise ship branch.
It was irresponsible people that had a catastrophic effect on the province’s tourism in particular and on the country’s image generally.
Following the accident, the province set up an inter-sector delegation to examine all 166 cruise boats that are licensed to provide overnight service in the bay, including Huong Hai Junks.
Huong Hai Junks is one of the first and most well-known brands operating a fleet of nine wooden junks offering clients overnight cruises on Ha Long Bay. Our captains, chief mechanics and shipmen are all well-educated with degrees and tourism certificates and fire protection certificates issued by the Quang Ninh Police. All captains by far have had seven to fifteen-year experiences exceeding the compulsory standard, i.e. 5 years.
Facilities as inflatable liferafts, life jackets, life buoys coming up to licensed standard are always available. They are compulsorily secure and changed for new ones at any time.
An automatic water alarm system with 3 whistles is equipped on each junk in case there is something wrong occurring.
Fire alarm system on each junk is also fitted as National Fire Protection Association’s standards.
Huong Hai Junks has its own inspection team to control the shipmen’s and junk team’s activities, and examine facilities on junks. They make sure the servants and shipmen are re-trained after 3 months organized by Huong Hai Junks under the strict supervision of the provincial authorities.
